Foxx on the American Rescue Sham’s One-Year Anniversary

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement on the one-year anniversary of the $1.9 trillion American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARP):

“Like pouring salt on an open wound, today’s anniversary of the American Rescue Sham is not sitting well with families across the country. According to the Department of Education, only four percent of the nearly $163 billion in emergency elementary and secondary education funding awarded has been spent thus farwith oversight of these funds being virtually nonexistent.

“And don’t forget about the uncapped taxpayer bailout of failing multiemployer pension plans in ARP, which does not ensure that future workers and retirees receive the retirement benefits they were promised. This reckless and irresponsible provision failed to include long overdue and necessary reformsonly exacerbating the failures of multiemployer pension plans which were mismanaged long-before the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Looking back, it’s clear that ARP was merely a partisan messaging tool rather than a substantive and calculated response to the challenges that everyday Americans and their families wereand are currentlyfacing.”
