In a blow to bipartisanship, Democrats today advanced H.R. 3992, the Protect Older Job Applicants Act; H.R. 729, the Strength in Diversity Act; H.R. 730, the Equity and Inclusion Enforcement Act; and, H.R. 2119, the Family Violence Prevention and Service Improvement Act of 2021 through Committee.
Education and Labor CommitteeRepublican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) gave the following statement in response to the Democrats’ reckless legislating: “Partisanship and poor policymaking are at the heart of each of these disastrous bills and the Democrat party itself. Instead of bolstering our economy, improving our children’s education, ensuring job opportunities for workers, providing real help to families experiencing violence, and defending religious freedoms, Democrats’ votes today steamrolled years of bipartisan agreement in favor of one-size-fits all federal government intervention that mirrors the Biden administration’s failed policies.”
Specifically, the Democrats’ H.R. 2119 will:
Allow the use of taxpayers’ dollars to promote abortion and deny religious freedom rights.
Upend the bipartisan Family Violence Prevention and Services Act consensus in favor of an overly prescriptive, partisan proposal.
Additionally, H.R. 729 and H.R. 730 will:
Fail to advance true equality for all students.
H.R. 729 is an empty promise that ignores an opportunity for bipartisanship and the most important challenges facing low-income students and students of color.
H.R. 730 is a radical rewriting of federal civil rights law that was not given proper consideration in Committee and does not meaningfully address equity or inclusion in our school system.
Finally, H.R. 3992 will:
Throw a wet blanket on a recovering economy by unnecessarily complicating business’s recruitment and hiring practices.
Elevate Democrats’ political allies by lining trial lawyers’ pockets with additional paydays at the expense Job Corps students, recent college graduates, and prospective apprentices and interns looking to get a foot in the door of the workforce.
Committee Republicans offered commonsense proposals, but Democrats voted against:
Increasing the availability of high-quality public school options for students.
Preventing the use of federal funds to promote Critical Race Theory, which divides children in to “oppressor” and “victim” classes based on the color of their skin.
Protections for the unborn and religious freedom by ensuring taxpayer dollars are not used to fund abortions.
Protecting job opportunities for recent graduates and apprentices.
