Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) issued the following statement celebrating today’s House passage of H.R. 7791, the Access to Baby Formula Act­, bipartisan legislation to ensure the rules for WIC participants and manufacturers are clear in the event of another crisis or supply chain disruption and plans are prepared to alleviate such a situation immediately:

“While H.R. 7791 will introduce more accountability and new safeguards to deter future supply chain shortages, it’s concerning that this administration’s inaction led to this nationwide catastrophe in the first place.

“Three-fourths of infants under six months old rely on some degree of formula and, with both the cost and scarcity of formula rising, so too does the threat to mothers and infants.

“Though the administration knew well in advance, it operated as if this threat never existed. This kind of mismanagement is abhorrent, and the administration must be held accountable.”
