@EdLaborGOP’s Advice to Biden Ahead of SOTU

The Biden administration’s policies have created worldwide catastrophes. America’s job creators, workers, and students are being forced to deal with the fallout of this administration’s failures. Here’s our advice to President Biden ahead of tonight’s address:

Blanket student loan forgiveness is not a solution
This administration cares more about appeasing the progressive wing of the Democrat party than offering solutions to address the rising cost of college. Americans don’t need quick fixes and snappy soundbites—Americans need meaningful reform. The federal student loan system must evolve so that it stops providing incentives for colleges and universities to raise the cost of tuition.

Instead of advocating for sensible policy solutions, Democrats are pushing radical student loan forgiveness schemes. Blanket forgiveness would compound the nation’s 40-year-high inflation rate, while disproportionately benefiting high-income borrowers—the very people who least need help and are reaping the benefits of the postsecondary education taxpayers provided them. It also does nothing for future borrowers as it ignores the systemic problems plaguing the student loan program that created the vicious debt spiral and tuition-bubble we have today. President Biden and radical progressives have nothing to say to the thousands of students taking on education debt the day after forgiveness hits other than “good luck.” Reckless loan forgiveness policies are a short-sighted answer that would crush American taxpayers and leave our higher education system more broken than before.

Pro-union doesn’t equal pro-worker
During his presidential campaign, Joe Biden promised to be “the most pro-union president” in American history. This is one of the only promises on which his administration has delivered. In February, the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment recommended almost 70 actions to coerce the American workforce into unions, whether workers want it or not.

In capitulation to Big Labor, President Biden signed an Executive Order mandating the use of project labor agreements on any federal construction project that costs more than $35 million, which disenfranchises the majority of hardworking men and women in the construction industry who choose not to join a union. For a president attempting to “build back better,” federally funded projects could move so slowly that America does not build back at all.

Discriminating against workers who don’t wish to join a union is unjustifiable. No American should feel coerced to unionize to remain competitive.

Furthermore, President Biden’s support for the radical PRO Union Bosses Act is unacceptable. This legislation would overturn right to work laws in 27 states and deny workers the flexibility and economic benefits offered by electing to be classified as independent contractors. This legislation is nothing but a union boss payoff.

Put students before teachers unions
Despite evidence that Democrats’ radically progressive crusade in K-12 schools fails children, the Biden administration has doubled down on support for teachers unions and liberal policies. Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, the reading scores of American children were dropping; at one high school in Baltimore, 77 percent of students read at an elementary-school level. Yet instead of empowering parents to choose for their children the K-12 experience that will be meet those students’ needs, progressives have turned classrooms into crash-courses for critical race theory and other divisive ideologies.

When the pandemic made virtual learning nearly universal and allowed parents to witness firsthand the woke agendas taught to school children, parents were not pleased. Since then, parents have mobilized, bringing national attention to Democrats’ failed leadership in K-12 schools. This parent movement is such a thorn in the side of the Biden administration that it weaponized the Department of Justice and the FBI to investigate concerned parents.

Parents are the best advocates for their children. In November 2021 Republicans introduced the Parents Bill of Rights Act, which empowers parents by ensuring they won’t be forced to take a back seat to bureaucrats in Washington.

Socialized health care raises costs and destroys freedom, choice, and innovation
Democrats’ expansion of Obamacare is nothing more than a down payment on Medicare-for-All, a government-run health care system that would eliminate private insurance, including employer-sponsored coverage. This means the 155 million Americans who receive health care through their employer would be forced into government-run health care program threatening personal choice and affordable health care. Denying patients and families the opportunity to make their own health care decisions is un-American.

Democrats continue to push for a radical drug price controls and socialized medicine. President Biden and Democrats shouldn’t be so eager to destroy a system that allows the U.S. to lead the world in new cures and treatments. It was this system that allowed the U.S. to develop COVID-19 vaccines in record time. Yet, more than half the Democrat conference wants to impose government price controls on prescription drugs. This will hurt the development of cures and treatments and—more importantly—people’s lives.

Biden’s tyrannical vaccine mandate hurts the economy and workers
Among Biden’s most egregious oversteps was his weaponization of the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). Biden’s vaccine-and-test mandate for private businesses circumvented congressional authority and was a blatant power grab. Apart from being unlawful, Biden’s OSHA vaccine mandate would have cost thousands of workers their jobs had the Supreme Court not stepped in. Going after workers for personal medical decisions, especially as America suffers from one of the worst labor shortages in American history, is absurd.
