EEOC Improves Transparency Following Foxx Letter

Today, Education and Labor Committee Republican Leader Virginia Foxx (R-NC) applauded the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s (EEOC) decision to resume posting its votes on the EEOC website. The move comes after Foxx wrote EEOC Chair Charlotte Burrows urging her to reinstate the EEOC’s practice of making members’ voting records public.

“There was no reason for the EEOC to hide its votes from the public—the very people the Commission is appointed to serve. I am pleased to see the EEOC change course and take steps to increase government accountability and transparency. I will continue to hold the federal government to the highest standards of accountability,” said Republican Leader Foxx.

Background: Under the leadership of previous EEOC Chair Janet Dhillon, all Commission votes were posted on EEOC’s website from November 2019 through January 2021. Commissioners vote on a wide array of important issues, including whether the agency will file a lawsuit on behalf of workers, whether to file amicus briefs, petitions to modify or revoke subpoenas of employers, and proposed regulations. Yet, prior to today the agency had not posted any votes on its website after January 2021 or otherwise made this information available to the public.
