Foxx Commends President Trump for Surprise Billing Executive Order

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 24, 2020

Today, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Republican Leader of the Committee on Education and Labor, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s Executive Order to combat the harmful practice of surprise medical billing:

“Rising health care costs and surprise medical bills continue to be issues that weigh heavily on all American families, especially during a pandemic. I commend President Trump for his focus on addressing the growing problem of surprise billing. In Congress, several House and Senate Committees including the Education and Labor Committee have passed bipartisan legislation that protects patients and treats doctors and insurers fairly. It’s time for Congress to act once and for all and solve this problem for the American people.”

NOTE: In February, the Committee on Education and Labor marked up and reported out of Committee H.R. 5800, the Ban Surprise Billing Act. This bipartisan legislation would hold patients harmless, protect air ambulance patients, require health plans to maintain up-to-date and accurate provider directories, improve consumer access to information, and increase transparency regarding in-network and out-of-network deductibles and out-of-pocket limitations.
