Foxx Applauds New DOL Overtime Rule

Today, Republican Leader of the House Education and Labor Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), issued the following statement supporting the Department of Labor’s (DOL) final rule which will make over one million additional American workers eligible for overtime:
“The Labor Department’s overtime rule is great news for American workers and business owners. The DOL rule is a responsible, reasonable, and workable solution that will update outdated salary levels and increase the number of workers eligible for overtime pay, while providing needed clarity to America’s job creators. This is just the latest example of how Republican pro-growth policies are providing American workers, job creators, and their families with opportunities for success.”
NOTE: In 2016, the Obama Administration proposed an excessive and misguided DOL rule that would have more than doubled the salary threshold to determine eligibility for overtime pay. This radical increase was completely unwarranted and gave employees and employers less than seven months to prepare for the rule change. Thankfully it never went into effect. A federal judge invalidated the rule, finding that the Obama Administration had “exceeded its authority and gone too far with [its] Final Rule.”
