Today, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), Republican Leader of the Committee on Education and Labor, praised North Carolina’s enactment of Senate Bill 86, which provides additional opportunities for small businesses to join together and form association health plans (AHPs), giving small businesses greater ability to provide their employees with high-quality health care at more affordable costs.
On Senate Bill 86 becoming law, Rep. Foxx said:“Small businesses across the country have long-struggled under the crushing weight of Obamacare’s flawed mandates, soaring costs, and limited choices. This has caused many small businesses to stop offering health coverage. The North Carolina law enacted today will help reverse this troubling trend and allow small businesses in the state to provide their employees with high-quality, affordable health care. This is a victory for small businesses, hardworking employees, and their families. Congress and the rest of the country should take note.”
NOTE: Republicans are committed to advancing reforms that make it easier for small businesses to offer health care coverage to their employees. Earlier this year, Rep. Foxx, along with Reps. Tim Walberg (R-MI) and Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), introduced the Association Health Plans Act of 2019, which expands health care options and lowers costs for small businesses through AHPs. The Trump Administration has also championed these efforts through recent rulemaking.
