Giving our children the best education possible begins by giving them effective teachers. Republicans have long stressed the importance of quality teachers to children’s success, a position reinforced through our support of the policies necessary to improve teacher effectiveness and classroom success.

In recent years, Congress has expanded federal support for teacher quality programs to assist states with recruiting and hiring effective teachers. Other initiatives include a Republican proposal to establish the “Crayola Credit,” which offers tax relief for teachers’ out-of-pocket expenses for classroom supplies. Republicans also provided assistance to states to establish performance-based pay provisions and dramatically expanded loan forgiveness for teachers of key subjects who serve in needy schools.

These are just a few of the policies Republicans advanced to support educators and improve teacher quality across the country. We will continue to encourage innovative solutions that reward teachers for their success and the success of their students.
